Blue and white squares containing numbers fade into abstract blue and white stippling, edged in jagged dark blue brushstrokes.

“Ebb and Flow” by Lucie Ware

The radio’s science reporter assures me
if a human can imagine something,
then the universe has done it,
which explains how every morning I wake
next to you, even when business
takes us time zones apart and when,
eventually, the universe will imagine one
or both of us somewhere void and breathless,
like the two ways a sun can make
a planet – one where light informs
for eons the particles of dust, another
where the gravity of some new Saturn
forever tugs the dimming of its star.
