Somehow Surprising

I’m sure, last time I walked on it,
this path was smooth and clear.
Now look at it - blotched, all blemished with leaves,
the husks of dropped days (when did this happen?)
like crinkled claws stirring, feebly scratching
a troubled grey face.

Katherine Spadaro was born in the UK but has lived in Australia for many years. She is deeply interested in everyday experience both for its own sake and for the symbolic value it often carries, and tries to communicate this interest in her poetry.

About the artist

K. L. Johnston is a poet and photographer who first realized her interest in photography in 2014. Her first published photos appeared in SC ETV Endowment’s in house magazine, Scene. Since then she has had numerous images published in journals, magazines, and reviews. She sees photography as a natural extension of poetry, distilling maximum feeling into a single image. Her favorite subjects are whimsical and /or environmental and her camera goes with her wherever she goes. Other interests include horticulture, philosophy, and historiography.
